Personal Details

Dr Osti is an Orthopaedic Surgeon practicing in Adelaide, South Australia  with a clinical and academic interest in spinal disorders.

 

His clinical Practice includes hip joint replacement surgery and medico-legal assessments of musculo-skeletal disabilities.

 

Dr Osti was born in Genoa, Italy on the 22nd July 1956.

 

He was educated in classical studies at the Lyceum Virgilio in Rome and completed his six year basic medical degree (MD) at the University of Rome in 1980 with honours, discussing a thesis on the "Role of the Paraspinal Muscles in the Pathogenesis of Idiopathic Scoliosis".

 

He completed his Post Graduate Specialist Diploma in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Rome in 1983 with honours and then moved to Adelaide, South Australia to work with Dr Robert Fraser as a Clinical Research Fellow at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

 

In 1989 he was selected into  the Advanced Orthopaedic Training Program of the Australian Orthopaedic Association completing it in 1992.During the same year he completed his Ph.D. in Medicine at the University of Adelaide discussing the thesis"Annular tears and Pathogenesis of disc degeneration". He was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in Orthopaedic Surgery(FRACS) in May 1992.He was elected to Fellowship of the Australian Orthopaedic Association(F A Orth A) in 1996.

 

Since 1993 he has been practicing s a Consultant Orthopaedic and Spinal Surgeon in Adelaide, South Australia.

 

He has won on two occasions the International Volvo Award for research in Spinal Disorders (1986 and 1990) and was awarded the Jepson Medal by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the Travelling Fellowship of the Western Pacific Orthopaedic Association in 1992.

 

He is currently the Head of the Spinal Service at The Queen Elizabeth Public Hospital in Adelaide and holds the Academic title of Clinical Senior Lecturer in Orthopaedic Surgery at University of Adelaide and Adjunct Lecturer in the Physiotherapy Department of the University of South Australia.  He is the Principal Supervisor of the AOA accredited Post Graduate Clinical Research Fellowship in Spinal Surgery at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

 

He is the Australian Council Representative of the Spinal Section of the Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Association(APOA) and a Member of the Surgical Services Commitee of Calvary Health Care, North Adelaide.He is a Member of the Advisory Editorial Board of the Journal Spine and the author of over 30 original scientific publications in English in the field of Spinal Disorders .

 

Dr Osti is married to Meegan (a Radiologist) and has six children aged between 23 and 9. He enjoys regular golf, watching Australian Rules Football and, when possible, sailing and fishing.
